Key West doesn’t really have four seasons, it has two. The dry season (roughly December through April) delivers day after day of sun, low humidity, and almost zero rain risk. The wet season (May through November) doesn’t mean all-day rain; it means brief, dramatic afternoon thunderstorms that usually clear within an hour, often leaving behind the most spectacular sunset skies of the entire year. The light.

You’re stacking every probability in your favor: minimal rain, comfortable heat for a suit or a fitted dress, and steady ocean breezes that make beach ceremonies pleasant instead of sweltering.

I photograph beautiful weddings in September. Couples save meaningfully on venues and accommodation, the beaches are quieter, and summer sunsets after a storm are genuinely unmatched. If you go June–October, do three things: buy wedding insurance with hurricane coverage, choose a venue with a solid indoor backup, and build a flexible photo timeline around the afternoon storm pattern ceremony at 5:30, not 3:00. Do that, and the off-season is a legitimately smart play, not a gamble.
Whatever month you choose, work backward from sunset. In December, the sun sets around 5:45 p.m.; in late June, close to 8:20 p.m. Your ceremony should end 60–90 minutes before sunset so we capture portraits in the best light of the day and you still make your own cocktail hour.
